The Internet provides us the ability to see exotic locations and plan trips to them. If you are planning such a trip, here are some ways to fly to countries on the cheap.

Flying to Another Country on the Cheap

Undeniably, the best and cheapest tickets for air flights can be found online. The various travel sites have a distinct advantage over travel agencies. They are selling in massive volume, so their overhead per sale is much less. That being said, there are a few ways to find the best deals when trying to fly cheap.

1. Search for a range of go and return dates. Don’t get fixed on particular dates. A flight leaving on Thursday may be 30 percent less than a flight leaving on Friday.
2. If you are willing to rough it a bit, look for flights leaving around midnight or later. International flights out of San Francisco to Asia are 25 percent cheaper if you leave after midnight. It might sound brutal, but it actually works out pretty well since you immediately go to sleep and knock eight hours or so off the flight time.

3. There is no “best” site when trying to fly on the cheap. They all have different ticket allotments at different times. Don’t be lazy. Check across all of the major sites. You’ll be surprised to find you can save as much as 50 percent.

4. If you are flying domestic in the United States, keep in mind that Southwest Airlines does not participate on the big travel sites. You must book on the web site for Southwest. It is usually very cheap.

If you are looking to go international, but really need to save money, the best answer is a chartered flight. Chartered flights are small airlines that only operate during certain periods of the year. They usually fly out of major cities once or twice a week. A bevy of them are active during the summer months and offer flights to Europe. Because they are unknown, don’t have high labor costs and can’t compete with big airlines, they will offer round trip tickets for half of the going rate. It is definitely a no frills option, but it is very cheap.

Finally, you have one really cheap option if you only need to be somewhere for a week or two. The infamous air courier system exists and is extremely cheap. If you are close to a delivery time, air flights can be free. Realistically, you should expect to pay about 20 percent of a normal ticket. The only drawback is that you can only visit the location for roughly 10 days before you have to come back.

As you can see, there are a couple of different ways to go if you are trying to fly on the cheap Show a little flexibility and you can save some big bucks even in high season.

Most visitors to the Costa Blanca region take an Alicante flight into the area. Alicante airport offers many flight options and low cost fares. The accessibility of rail services, buses and care hire companies make travel to this area easy. You have many choices for travelling from the airport to other areas in the region and around the country.

Over sixty million people travel to Spain each year. The Spanish government has invested in infrastructure to make the country more accessible to both visitors and citizens. As a result, this country is one of the most affordable in terms of travel.

Best Prices on a Spain Flight
The internet offers the ability to reserve flights into the area without a travel agent. Prices fluctuate daily and even many times during a given day. Tickets work on the principle of supply and demand. The more tickets that are available, the cheaper the fare. The opposite is also true.

Nott all travel websites are created equally. Don’t expect to find the same deals on all the sites. Flights can vary widely in terms of price and availability. Compare flights on several different sites to get the best deal. This will be more time consuming, but can save you a significant amount of money.

The time of year and day of the week make a big difference in the fares you will pay. Tuesday and Thursday are typically the least expensive days to fly. Friday, Saturday and Sunday are the most expensive flight days. Also, consider taking a flight in the non peak hours to save money. Travelling in the peak summer season will be more expensive than in the off peak season, just before or after the summer.

Book in advance for the best deals. Some people believe that waiting until the last minute is a good way to get a deal. This can be true in the off season, but flights fill up quickly in the peak season. To get a good deal and still have the availability, you should book your trip about three months in advance for international travel.

Discount Carriers for a Cheap Alicante Flight
Discount European airlines often offer good deals on flights into Alicante ( http://www.alicante-spain.com/cheap_alicante_flights.html ). These flights are not always listed on all travel sites. They can be a little tough to find and you’ll need to spend some time looking around. Although it will be more time consuming, you will save more money, which may be well worth the time invested.

Discount airlines are able to offer better prices in exchange for less convenience on the plane. These are no frills flights. There is little or no food served on the plane. You won’t get a meal, but may get a small snack on some flights. On other carriers, you will be charged for drinks. This helps keep down the cost of the tickets. Consider bringing your own snacks on the plane for your trip.

You should expect some inconvenience in exchange for the lower fare. In some cases, your flight will not be direct. You may need to change planes during your journey. If you are connecting in another country, you may need to collect your bags and check them in again for the second flight of your trip. This can be a hassle, but again you will save money. Ask about this policy with the individual airline.

Keep in mind that you may have more inconvenience if your flight is cancelled for any reason. It may not be as easy to get another flight when using a small airline as it is with a major carrier. Larger carriers won’t honor your ticket and you’ll have to wait for an alternate flight with your small airline.

There’s no denying that it has become more and more difficult to fly without running into snags or problems with the airport or the airlines. Enduring the line at the security check point in some airports is enough to put some passengers in a bad mood. However, despite all of the inconveniences that come with flying, it is a necessity. There are several things that can be done to make flying easier and more hassle free, and all that is involved is a little bit of common sense and planning.

1. Get to the Airport Early
Arriving at the airport early is a no-brainer, especially when the airlines tell passengers to arrive at least two hours prior to a flight’s departure time. However, there are many people who refuse to heed this request, and arrive at the airport just several minutes before a flight is scheduled to leave. If there is a line at the check-in counter or at security, this can create a very stressful situation. Not only may the flight be missed, but a new flight must be booked, and the passengers will probably have to travel stand-by on a later flight with no guarantee of a seat until the very last minute.

2. Take a Morning Flight.
Leaving on an early flight does not necessarily mean a 4 a.m. flight must be chosen. However, flights that leave first thing in the morning are less likely to be running late, and they are less likely to be affected by weather problems across the country and/or other planes that may be delayed at other airports. Also, if for some reason the first flight of the day is canceled or delayed, there will probably be several other flights throughout the day that, if necessary, can be taken instead.

3. Try Not to Fly During “Rush Hour”
Airports, like highways, have rush hours. Typically, rush hour in the morning is from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., and in the afternoon from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. These are the hours when airports are the most crowded with people waiting for flights. Crowds mean longer lines at the security check points, more people in the restrooms, more people waiting in restaurant lines, and more people taking up seats in the waiting areas. Flying at a NON-rush hour time of day can alleviate the need to stand in lines and sit with crowds.

4. Try to Take Non-Stop Flights
Obviously, when a non-stop flight is taken, there is less risk of being delayed. Taking off and landing both take quite a bit of time, so avoiding having to do this twice is recommended. There will always be destinations when a non-stop flight is not available, but there are plenty of cities where non-stop flights are just as common as those that stop. It may even be worth a few extra dollars to book a non-stop flight to avoid an unneeded hassle and the possibility of being delayed.

5. Book Connections with Enough Time
If a non-stop flight is not available to a desired destination, make sure to schedule enough time in between flights. When airlines book flights, they often have a layover requirement of 30 or 45 minutes between connections. However, this is often not enough time if the original flight arrives late. In order to avoid this stress, try to schedule connecting flights with at least an hour to spare between the arrival time of the first flight and the departure time of the connecting flight.

There are many reasons that make booking a last minute flight necessary. Some common reasons include tragedy, a sudden change in plans, adventure, or taking advantage of rock bottom deals that only become available at the last minute. Because the airlines typically reward individuals who plan ahead, with lower fares, travelers who need or tend to make last minute travel arrangements, will find that last minute flights are generally much more expensive. However, if one looks hard enough, they will find that there are websites that specialize in providing good rates for last minute travelers.

Last minute traveler, specialty websites are able to secure good deals on last minute flights because airlines are often desperate to fill their planes to capacity. An empty seat means lost revenue. And with many airlines struggling to stay afloat, any lost revenue quickly becomes a problem.

If you find that you need to arrange last minute travel due to a death in the family, you may be able to receive a special discounted price from the airlines. To see if you qualify, simply call the airlines directly. You will need to be able to provide some sort of proof, so make sure to find out what documentation you will need in order to receive a death-related, price break.

You can go about checking the availability of last minute flights by calling airlines individually, right before you need to leave or you can visit an airline search engine that specializes in finding last minute deals for you. They will undoubtedly have connections and will be able to make deals that you won’t be able to secure for yourself. Below is a list of sites that will have special last minute flight deals available.

Sometimes making last minute travel arrangements is necessary. Some people prefer to travel this way, deciding at the last minute that they want to visit another country or city. These people are typically more adventurous and love the freedom of travel on a whim. For these individuals, price may not be much of a factor. There are other individuals who find that they need to travel due to some sort of emergency or death. Still, there are others that will take advantage of special deals that airline or travel companies make available to last minute travelers.

When it comes to planning your vacation, it’s tempting to go the do-it-yourself route. After all, it’s easy enough to book an airline flight reservation. Why shouldn’t you also do your own booking for a car rental, hotel, or even a cruise? Here are five reasons why you should leave your vacation planning to a professional, full service online travel agent:

1. Terrific Deals

You can do your own booking, but you won’t necessarily get a low far or the best deal. Airlines, hotels, car rental agencies, and cruise ships count on people to make their own reservations and charge higher rates to those who do. Yet they don’t really make a profit until they’re completely booked.

Think of hotel rooms, airplane seats, and cruise ship cabins as perishable commodities. Just like an expired carton of milk has to be pulled off the grocery store shelf, on any given night, an empty hotel room is lost revenue that will never be regained. Similarly, an airplane is going to fly and a cruise ship will embark whether or not the seats and cabins are full. It’s in the best interest of hotels, airlines, and cruise ships to be fully booked. That’s why they offer discounted fares to an online travel agent, who can then pass along the savings to you.

2. Full Packages

A full service online travel agent can put together package vacations to destinations and hotel properties to which you might not otherwise have access. Perhaps you’re a golfer, and want a dream golf vacation. Maybe a Caribbean vacation is on the horizon. Or maybe you are looking for the perfect cruise package. Although it’s sometimes possible to book travel packages with the destination, you often don’t get the options that best meet your needs. An online travel agent can put together packages that work best for you and your family.

3. Great Service

When you go the do-it-yourself route, it’s often difficult to coordinate all aspects of your travel. Making sure that your flights depart and arrive at optimal times, that your hotel reservation is in order, that your car rental will be available, and that you’ll have everything in order to board a cruise ship is no walk in the park. An online travel agent can do all the legwork for you so you can concentrate on preparing for your trip. And, if you have a change in plans, the great service that an online travel agent provides can make the transition a smooth one.

4. Group Travel

Extended families often travel together, and businesses have group travel requirements from time to time. In either case, a full service online travel agent can easily book trips for people who have the same destination but who are traveling from different places. Having a group travel coordinator gives everyone peace of mind and ensures that the group’s needs are met.

5. Honeymoon Registry

If you’re planning your honeymoon, an online travel agent can provide you with the latest trend in wedding gifts: the honeymoon registry. When you register with a full service online travel agent, your guests can contribute funds to your honeymoon, or they can buy specific services (such as a spa treatment or a romantic breakfast in bed) that you have on your wish list.

While it’s possible to book travel yourself, why would you want to? After all, the advantages in using a full service online travel agent are limitless.

A new year always means a chance for a new start. You and yours can begin this new year by making some travel resolutions together, regardless of your time and budget restraints. Put aside those new travel habits and make some new ones! Let this be the year that your travel designs focus on fun, fantasy, and festivities!

(1) we are going to plan a real vacation. No, it doesn’t have to be an around the world cruise or first class getaway (but if you can afford it, what are you waiting for?) It does have to be an honest-to-goodness vacation, though. No cell phones, no laptops. Mark the dates on the calendar and keep it like you’d keep any business appointment. The business of romantic travel, though, is a fun four and an activity that the one of you can plan for months.

(2) we are going to involve each other in the trip planning. All often, four partner gets the job for planning a trip…and that task quickly becomes a bore. Plan your trips together! Anticipation is half the fun. Visit a travel agent. Collect brochures. Buy a guidebook. Rent a video about your destination. Search the web for information.

(3) we are going to do something we have rarely done. Here you can be as mild — or as wild — as you dare. Go whitewater rafting. Rent a houseboat. Take a hot air balloon ride. Spend the night in a local bed and breakfast. Learn to scuba dive. Dance the whole night away under the stars. The choice is yours.

(4) we are going to take four mini-vacation every month. Whether it’s for the night or for the night out, plan four tiny slice of a vacation every single month. The only rule: you must pretend you are on vacation. Book a night at a local bed and breakfast. Call your local hotel and find out their non-peak nights (in business-oriented cities, it’s usually Friday and Saturday) then plan a short romantic getaway.

(5) we are going to go to at least four festival. Special events take place at about every community around the world. Whatever your interests — from square dancing to sandcastle building — you’ll find a festival celebrating with a day or one of fun and food. If you don’t have the time or budget to go far, contact area chamber of commerce or tourism offices within a day’s drive of your home for their calendar of events. If you can, extend your trip into a long weekend. If you have got the time and resources, check out a quantity of the major fun festivals: Carnival, Mardi Gras, Rio’s Carnivale. Don’t forget your costume!

BEFORE YOU GO

Do a hotel research on the net looking not only for the cheapest rates but also considering the amenities and services provided, location, possible references from other people. Travel guidebooks can also be very helpful for choosing the hotel that suits you best. Be as much flexible with your trip schedule as possible. For example, business class hotels often have lower weekend rates.

As soon as you reserved the room(s) online, document all information about the hotel(s). The easiest way is to print out the whole page off your computer screen so you will have a clear statement that you can use as evidence in case of misplacing or incorrectly entering your information by a hotel clerk. Take a copy with you, make another one for your relatives so they will know when and where you are going to stay so they can contact you in emergency cases.

WHEN CHECKING-IN

Learn the proper check-in and check-out times. Confirm the amenities and services the hotel provides. Ask for directions, a local map. Get a card with the hotel’s name, address and phone number so you can show it to a taxi driver or a passer-by in the street if you get lost.

Some hotels may provide extra services that you may not know about unless you ask for it:

- laundry service,
- hair dryers,
- voltage converters/ adaptors,
- newspaper service,
- complementary meals,
- access to fax machine, copier, printer, computer, Internet connection,
- cable TV, rental movies, video games,
- portable beds, baby cribs,
- complementary shuttle service to airport,
- rental safe for your money, jewellery, documents,
- telephone access charges,
- fees for using mini-bar,
- guided tours, excursions.

AT THE HOTEL

Safety should be a priority for everybody and you have to take some precautions. We devoted a whole separate page to travel safety including hotel safety measures so we will skip this part here. When you go out for the day, leave your key at the reception desk. Confirm closing time. Some hotels do lock up at night and you’re expected to keep the key if you stay out late.

BEFORE LEAVING YOUR HOTEL

Check out your room for left-behind items. If you need extra time for staying over the regular check-out time (usually it ranges from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m), make a request in advance or the hotel may charge you an additional night.

Review the hotel bill making sure that all charges are accurate.

We wish you a successful and safe trip!

You may want the first person you tell about an upcoming vacation to be your insurance agent. The U.S. Department of State recommends travelers check to see if their health insurance is valid in different destinations, before heading off on a trip. Doing so could help save you more than a few headaches while you’re on the road. Try these additional tips for staying healthy while traveling:

Know Before You Go

Talk to your doctor about the places you plan to visit and find out if you need any vaccinations before going. Remember that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says some vaccines take up to six weeks to become fully effective. That means if you need a shot, you should try to get it well before your actual trip.

Healthy Travels

Pack prescription medication and basic over-the-counter medicine in your carry-on luggage-not in your checked bags. That way, if your checked bags get lost, it will just be an inconvenience and not an emergency. Also, make an effort to sample the local fare, but be certain to tell your waiter about any food allergies you may have before ordering.

Fun In The Sun

Even if you’re not going to Tahiti, odds are you’ll be walking around in the sun. Be sure to protect yourself by using a sunblock with an SPF of at least 15 and a wide-brimmed hat. Just know that not all hats block the sun’s rays equally well. Some are specifically designed and certified to offer maximum sun protection and some are not. For instance, hats made by Tilley Endurables are certified with an Ultraviolet Protection Factor of 50+ (the highest rating given). Tilley Mesh Hats are also equipped with new “3D” mesh fabric as well as Hydrofil; Anti-Sweat Bands. Like all the company’s hats, they block 98 percent of the sun’s rays and are designed to keep travelers’ heads cool.

The big day has arrived – a holiday in a far away foreign country. You are all packed and ready to go. You have your passport, plane ticket, and some way to pay for your next few weeks. You are nervous an anxious and ready to go. Here are a few pointers to make your long flight a little more pleasant.

Before you go.

Pack as light as possible. You should have no more than two suitcases and one carry-on. If you are going to a tropical climate it will be even easier packing shorts and T-shirts. And, you can always pick up some new clothes at your destination.

Ensure that you have all of your medications and copies of your prescriptions. Check on the latest rules for carrying liquids in your carry-on. The rules and regulations change with the weather – so keep current.

Re-confirm your flight. My last trip was almost delayed by a day or two as a typhoon hit Taiwan and my flight from Hawaii was going through Taipei. I scrambled and got my flight changed to one that went through Tokyo, Japan and managed to get to Thailand as scheduled. I didn’t check ahead of time and fortunately was able to get on a different flight. I learned my lesson. While re-confirming, get your seat assignment. I prefer exit rows for more legroom.

Double check that you have everything. I use a checklist and check it 2 or 3 times before I go. Really make sure that you have your passport, tickets and some way to pay – cash, ATM card, credit card or traveler’s checks. A combination is a good way to make sure that you have alternative means of paying. If you are going to a country that has its own currency, plan to exchange a day or two’s worth at the destination airport. Don’t change money in your home country – you will get a terrible rate.

At your home airport

Plan to get to your airport about 3 hours ahead of your flight departure. Check-in and security lines can be long and slow. Have your travel documents ready to show wherever you go. Again, check on the rules for what you can bring with your on the flight – especially in your carry-on.

I always eat at the airport before I fly. Things have gotten better and cheaper at airports and I prefer to have a meal in me and not rely on the airline food. I also bring some trail mix with me to munch on during the flight.

Take advantage of the duty free shops. Get your booze, cigarettes and other goodies for tax-free prices. Check the limitations at your destination country before you buy 6 bottles of whiskey and find out you are only allowed to bring in one. Also check to see if you can carry liquids on flights that have a layover or two. You may have to make your purchase at the layover before your last leg.

You can kill time playing with any electronic toys you own. Wireless access is usually available in the airports so you can check email and surf. You can also listen to some music if you have an Ipod of something similar. Wireless can be found in most airports right outside the Airline lounges. You don’t have to be a member to sit outside and tap into their unsecured network.

On the flight

Try to relax and sleep as much as possible. The time zone changes and jet lag will be lessened. Avoid alcohol and drink plenty of water, especially on longer flights. Dehydration comes easily on long flights in dry cabin air. You can drink booze when you arrive.

Read and watch a movie to kill time. Do some of the puzzles in the on-board magazines. Keep busy as much as possible. Have some mints and gum to alleviate the air pressure during take-off and landing.

I usually avoid the main course of the airline food. I do eat the salad, bread and dessert. The main meal is rarely edible. This is why I eat before I go and eat my own snacks.

You will have to fill out a customs declaration form on the plane to turn in to the Custom’s officer. Do this on the plane and stick it with your passport.

Arrival

Head out of the plane as quickly as possible. You and everyone else will have to go through Immigration/Customs – so the race is on. Hopefully, you were given instructions before deplaning. If not, just follow the signs. Don’t stop to smoke or use the bathroom. Get in the shortest line and have your passport ready. Keep a copy of your boarding pass with you, just in case.

Be pleasant and polite to the Custom’s officer, get your passport stamped, turn in your customs declaration, and head for the luggage carousels. Make sure you have your own luggage and find the currency exchange.

Change enough money to last you a day or two. ATMs are conveniently located around the world, so a debit card is the easiest way to get local currency. It can be a little more risky using a credit card. Get your money and head for the exit.

Find the taxi or bus line and head to your hotel. You made it! Now, enjoy your vacation.
